Breathing, often underestimated, is a key element in our health and well-being, especially when it comes to controlling anxiety. By learning to breathe consciously and properly, we can activate a natural mechanism in our body to relieve stress, reduce tension and promote relaxation.
In moments of anxiety, our body enters into “fight or flight” mode, releasing hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. This causes a variety of physical and psychological symptoms, such as rapid, shallow breathing, increased heart rate, sweating, tremors, and accelerated thoughts.
Deep breathing, on the other hand, activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for putting us in a state of calm and relaxation. When we breathe slowly and deeply, we send signals to the brain that decrease the production of stress hormones and promote a sense of peace.
